Costa Rica, Samasati: a true retreat!

Dear Silvia,

I absolutely loved Samasati and will come back! I loved being surrounded by the native Costa Rican cooks in the kitchen and your staff there. Kimberly was a great help. Two of our travelers had bad weather and the flight was late
and thy had to stay in San Jose for the night. She was able to make all the arrangements for me to get them to Samasati the next day.
I really liked my bungalow, #6, and waking up to the green lush view from my bed and listening to the monkeys and birds. The food was truly delicious.

We painted in the dining area which does have good light and a beautiful view.
I enjoyed meeting Max, he returned the night before we left. I love the "vision" you have in the booklet you give to people  staying there to read.

Warm regards,
Susan

Yoga teacher training in Costa Rica

Dear Noelia,

Thank you so much for your many kindnesses and help with arranging things for me and my fellow classmates at Samasati. The experience literally changed our lives: our values, character, and spirits. We each
returned from Samasati a better person than when we first arrived.

We also want to extend sincere thanks to all the people who work at Samasati for their exceptional dedication to our needs. The food was simply amazing. Every day the ladies performed culinary miracles in their kitchen. They prepared a variety of fresh, delicious foods that were of the highest quality. The cleaning service was professional, fast, and attentive to details, often surprising us with beautiful flowers on our linens. The transportation was always reliable, courteous, and prompt; and the grounds were meticulously attended with the utmost respect to the natural beauty of the rainforest that envelopes Samasati.

In addition, we must mention Gita, the resident yoga instructor - who often engaged us with stimulating conversations and advice - and Kimberly and Aldomar, the managers - who took special care to insure that everything ran in a smooth, professional, and orderly manner.

While all of this is impressive, what is truly notable is the pride the people of Samasati take in their tasks and the warm, friendly hospitality they extended to us as guests in
Costa Rica. They prepared birthday cakes for those several of us who had birthdays during our stay, and they prepared special teas and chest compresses if we were ill.

Finally, we were especially fortunate to have Marianne Wells provide us world-class training at Samasati. She is a truly inspiring yogini and a deeply gifted teacher. She touched each
of us in a unique way, bringing out the best in us so that we are now better prepared for our journey to pass on the gift of yoga to others.

Samasati is a mystical place of unsurpassed beauty and welcoming people. Please pass on my deepest gratitude on behalf of myself and my beloved classmates to everyone involved in making this treasured visit on 25 July to
9 August 2009 to Samasati so very, very meaningful. . . .

Namaste,

Chris Lane

Memorable vacation in the Caribbean

Hello,

Beeing at Samasati on my trip to Costa Rica helped make my experience there awesome, wonderful and truly memorable.   I look at my photos and I see nature, the frogs, the trees, the sea and the horses; the zip line, the waterfalls and the mountains.   But, most of all, I see your faces which are the most important memories of my trip.

I was awed by your friendliness, kindness, and love.   I felt part of a large (functional) family which meant so much to me.   We're lucky that in this time in history it's so easy to remain in contact; no longer the need to write everyone long handwritten letters (which is still so nice to do), and which never seemed to get done.   What with email and Facebook I hope we can continue to be part of each other's lives.

My journey is filled with love.   May your day be happy and filled with beauty.

i will post my photos soon and let you know where I did, and I will send out some to individuals by email.

Love,
Sonja

Costa Rica: humanitarian activities at Samasati!

Ambassador for children has sponsored a summer camp at Samasati Nature Retreat for 20 children of the local school...

it has been a success and this is what the teacher has wrote about her experience:
“ The children were wonderful to work with.  Everyday we would have an hour English lesson.  Each group collected words and phrases in their notebooks, and drew pictures to enhance understanding and comprehension.  We would meditate and do a small yoga lesson twice a day.  Our hikes were beautiful, and the children were inspired to create beautiful paintings and drawings.  The final mandala drawing and coloring was a very unique experience. All the kids (a total of 20 of them) have been enriched by the silence, the focus, the simple activities, the genuine fun and by having a deeper understanding of what nature and the surroundings can provide in terms of a safe environment to explore and to know. At last we gave them the t-shirts and they were really surprised ! I think they have never got so much attention and new games and new imput!!
Their eyes were always quite big and they were VERY attentive to what the next moment was reserving.
They have memories for a life time. Thank you for the opportunity”

THANK YOU to the Ambassador for children to make it happen!

Costa Rica tops happiness, 'green living' poll

Posted on Jul 11th, 2009 by Samasati : Yoga in Paradise Samasati
Cabanas__kayak_trip_1942_2009-05-08_-_version_2

SAN JOSE (AFP) - Costa Rica is the happiest place on earth, and one of the most environmentally friendly, according to a new survey by a British non-governmental group.

The New Economics Foundation looked at 143 countries that are home to 99 percent of the world's population and devised an equation that weighed life expectancy and people's happiness against their environmental impact.

By that formula, Costa Rica is the happiest, greenest country in the world, just ahead of the Dominican Republic.

Latin American countries did well in the survey, occupying nine of the top 10 spots.

Australia scored third place, but other major Western nations did poorly, with Britain coming in at 74th place and the United States at 114th.

The New Economics Foundation's measurements found Costa Ricans have a life expectancy of 78.5 years, and 85 percent of the country's residents say they are happy and satisfied with their lives.

Those figures, taken along with the fact that Costa Rica has a small "ecological footprint," combined to push the small nation to the top of the list.

A 2006 New Economics Foundation study designated Vanuatu the world's happiest nation, with Costa Rica at second place.

Sociologist Andrea Fonseca said Costa Rica gives its citizens the "tools" to be happy, but cautioned that happiness cannot be calculated just by looking at life expectancy and environmental practices.

She added that the country's rise to the top of the Happy Planet Index "has a lot to do with social imagination."

Costa Rica has a peaceful reputation because it does not have an army, and is also known for its protected ecological zones and national slogan "pure life," she said
